Guarding and proclaiming the unchanging truth in a changing world

ISRAEL: I came, I saw, I rejoiced!

If the Lord called me home right now, I would go peacefully because I have had a taste of Israel. When I got saved, I let go of my filthy lifestyle of theft, alcoholism, and adultery and I have found joy and peace in Jesus Christ. I am what I am today because of the grace I have found in salvation.

It is very exciting to travel in a plane with people of different backgrounds, walk on the same streets as Jesus did. I will always have fond memories of entering King Solomon’s temple and the Dead Sea.  It was amazing to watch the white doves on the sea shore, people floating on water, and I expected to find people being baptized in River Jordan. I stepped in the flowing water of the River Jordan, ferried some water in my water bottle to take back home. Another memorable moment I had was seeing for myself the empty tomb, which always sounded fictitious.  Easter celebrations will never be the same again for me. I now reaffirm that Jesus is risen indeed.

I have listened to the word of God, using translators, and I am going back home as an ambassador of Christ to proclaim Christ faithfully with boldness to the nations.

About our blogger:  Eliab Bakatagura is 90, a lay canon, and a Gafcon delegate from Ankole Diocese, in the Church of Uganda.  He is here with his wife, Mable Bakatagura, 86, they married in 1951. Their 5 children have sadly died. However, God has blessed them with 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  Eliab Bakatugura was born in a polygamous home which practiced African Traditional Beliefs. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior in July 1951; for Mable this decision took a little longer - she turned to Christ in 1980.  He served in the Church of Uganda as a catechist for 11 years and continues to earn his daily income by farming.
