The Future of GAFCON
GAFCON is a movement within the Anglican Communion to call it back to the Bible and to the great task of making disciples by preaching the gospel in all the world.
Since the original conference in Jerusalem, GAFCON has borne a faithful witness to Biblical truth. Nairobi 2013 called upon the leadership of GAFCON to expand the movement and to take on the huge tasks confronting Christians round the world.
Already GAFCON had inspired a mission to England (Anglican Mission in England) which is planting new Anglican churches in England. There are branches of GAFCON in Britain, Southern Africa and Australia, and more are planned. Our branches will teach and will also be ready to offer fellowship to those who for no fault of their own may be forced to leave their church or diocese over a matter of fundamental principle.
GAFCON is aiming to help Anglicans through the training of bishops, through theological education and through networks of Anglicans who need to assist each other as we seek to stand for Christ. We aim to bring together those who work amongst women, in development, in evangelism, in children and youth, in marriage, in education so that we can bless each other as we seek to win the world for Christ.
We have revised our structures to help this happen — for example we have charitable trust set up in England called the Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans (GFCA) – and we have raised seed money to help employ the people who can ‘move the movement’. We now need to raise up an army of supporters and partners who will help our work go forward.
The work is overseen by the Primates Council. At the moment, the Primates who belong to the Council are from Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, South Sudan, South America, North America, Rwanda and the Congo. They are assisted by Advisors from around the world, a Board of Guarantors and also the Trustees of GFCA.
Already we have several thousand supporters and we aim to have many, many more. We are setting up a prayer fellowship and we invite supporters to become partners though prayer and through giving to the work. GAFCON is one of the hopeful signs that the Lord is sustaining and preparing his people to face the challenges posed by secularism, Islam and other ideologies. We hope to encourage many thousands more people from all around the world to stand with us for the sake of Christ to guard and proclaim the unchanging, transforming gospel.
