Who is Jesus?
The GAFCON UK website carries a report that Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali and a GAFCON UK leader have called on the Archbishop of Canterbury to rebuke the Scottish Episcopal Church following a reading from the Koran at an Epiphany service in St Mary’s Cathedral, Glasgow, in which the divinity of Jesus is denied.
While the Archbishop does not have jurisdiction in the Scottish Episcopal Church, it is disappointing that he has not publicly distanced himself and the Anglican Communion from an event which is profoundly at odds with apostolic Christianity and has caught the attention of the national media.
In an address last year to the UK’s New Wine movement, the Archbishop said 'We know, you know, I know, there is only one certainty in the world and that is Jesus Christ', but silence when the truth of the incarnation is called into question encourages uncertainty about the very centre of Christian witness.
